WHY DO WE CARE?
Juvenile Archive was founded to support students in exploring writing and artistic forms other than academic. At schools, we are taught to argument ideas, instead of formulating and understanding them. We are forced to create works following a rigid structure - without using the structure as a creative tool to convey our thoughts. In Juvenile Archive, we want to promote creativity and capture it in the form of a story, painting, drawing, etc.
THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Juvenile as an adjective means ‘for or relating to young people’. Our journal is nothing but a representation of the adolescent voices. Juvenile is also used to describe a crime committed by an underaged individual. Our journal promotes freedom of speech, and, therefore, we are against suppression of individuality and censorship. Our writers and illustrators are encouraged to challenge expectations forced upon them. From one perspective, it could be said we are committing a misdemeanor and rebellion against societal norms.
Archive is a collection of historical records. Our journal is a manifestation of thoughts, ideas and imagination during a unique period of one’s lifetime – coming of age. This is the time when an individual evolves by challenging their values, beliefs and worldviews. We are here to capture those moments and pass them on to the new generation of youngsters.

HOW DO WE WORK?
Every 2 weeks there is new prompt writers and illustrators should relate their works to. Prompts are topics, which carry an interesting concept or idea to explore. A prompt could be inspired by a source or a plot of imagination. Prompts always allow freedom of creativity and are open to interpretation. After reviewing and editing processes, the works are posted on the website. As a writer, you are welcome to write in any creative writing format e.g. poetry, plays, novels, novellas, short stories, speeches, etc. As an illustrator, you are welcome to create artworks in any visual arts form e.g. drawing, filmmaking, photography, collage, design, sculpture, crafts, etc..
We are a community of open-minded people from all over the globe and all volunteer in this project solely for its mission: to explore imagination, share ideas and improve skills. We promote intercultural understanding, encourage communication and creating relationships.
